Lights, Music, Action at the Barksdale Theater.

Friday, February 26th, 2010

The Spelling Bee is about to begin. Anticipation fills the hall as the contestants assume their place in the sea of competitors. Up steps the first contestant, “Spell Soliloquy” rings the moderator’s voice over the microphone.

The stage is set, the challenge is analyzed and without hesitation “s-o-l-i-l-o-q-u-y” rings out throughout the auditorium. The spelling is complete and the next contestant rises to meet their own challenge. The Barksdale Theater is filled with uninterrupted action as the actors enchant the audience in the musical performance of  “Spelling Bee.”

With three different locations throughout the Richmond area for performances, the Barksdale Theater is the perfect place to take your family or have a date night. (more…)

RISE: Indoor Soccer Like You’ve Never Seen it Before

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Soccer Fanatics Unite! The day is over the night is young, let’s play soccer!

Feeling like the Virginia snow has killed any chance of getting outside for some fun with your friends? Wishing you had a place to take the kids so they could let off some steam?

Luckily I know a soccer secret hide out where no secret password or hand shake is needed to gain access to a game.  The place?  The RISE (Richmond Indoor Sports Experience) sports complex in Midlothian.

The RISE is a fully enclosed sports complex where you can choose from a variety of soccer skill levels, age groups and interests.  There are soccer groups for those still trying to reclaim and prove their youthful skill and for those who are truly youthful with skill.

I have personally joined the “wanting to reclaim and prove your youthful skill” soccer group.  I would rate the games as intense and challenging.  The RISE also uses the indoor sporting space for baseball pitching practice and Lacrosse training.

For those who live in Haywood Village at Charter Colony, RISE is just minutes from home, making it easy to take the kids to all of their weekend sporting events. (more…)

Come Celebrate with Chesterfield County Schools!

Friday, February 19th, 2010

At 7 p.m. on February 25, make sure to head over to Tomahawk Creek Middle School to celebrate the Chesterfield County’s Core Vales Initiative and hear Richmond’s celebrity storyteller, Slash Coleman give the keynote address.

In 1999 Chesterfield County Schools adopted a Core Value Initiative program. Based on the book, Educating for Character by Thomas Luckona, this program promotes safety, respect for property, parent productivity and good work ethic. In addition, Luckona believes schools should provide more teaching time, a caring school environment and a more positive structure in schoolwork. The program is designed to ward off violence, vandalism, stealing cheating, peer cruelty, bigotry and other self destructive behaviors.

The fun-filled event will include a concert perfect for families, teachers and children of all ages. (more…)

Hospitals and Home Buying

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

It might be sound surprising, but Johnston Willis Hospital (CJW) is one of my favorite places. In addition to being an amazing healing center in the Midlothian area, this hospital also has some of the most skilled and helpful doctors and nurses I have ever met.

I’ve visited the hospital on many occasions to visit family members or church members and each time I am greeted with a warm and friendly smile. Questions are always answered thoroughly and everyone on staff is kind and pleasant. CJW focuses on five major areas: general care, emergency care, Levinson Heart Hospital, Thomas Johns Cancer Hospital and the Neuroscience & Gamma Knife Center, so matter your need, CJW has the right medical team for you.

Boone Homes is similar in that respect. We have over 10 different new home communities throughout Richmond and Roanoke.  Three of our communities are located within miles of CJW: Tarrington on the James, Haywood Village and Westcott at Grey Oaks. Because each Boone Homes community offers a wide variety of floorplans and upgrade options, its easy for home buyers to find the perfect home for their family. (more…)

Speed Cook Technology Can Be Yours in a Boone Home

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Do you ever find yourself dreading the time after work? Do you hate the thought of waiting 45 minutes for dinner to cook? Do you especially hate crouching down and straining your back to pull a heavy casserole or turkey from the oven?

With a new home from Boone Homes you’ll never have to worry about those issues again. We offer appliance options that can take care of those issues – built-in oven towers with speed ovens.

As one of Richmond and Roanoke’s premier luxury home builders, Boone Homes offers the highest quality appliances designed to simplify your life on a daily basis.

One option is the Whirlpool double oven with SpeedCook technology system.  The top oven uses halogen and quartz light energy with microwave technology and cuts cooking times by nearly 50%, while still giving the same great grilling and baking results as a traditional oven.

The bottom oven features TimeSavor Plus convection cooking system and cuts roasting time by 30%.  Not only does it cook faster, but it also seals in flavors by utilizing a third heating element and fan to circulate heated air on all sides of food.  You can cut cooking time of a whole roast chicken from 1 ½ hours to 1 hour! Give the Gift of Ballet this Valentines Day

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

A few years ago a very romantic husband gave his wife the keys to their new Boone Home in Westcott at Grey Oaks for her Valentine’s Day present.  Of course all of the ladies in our office were in awe of how romantic that was.

What could he do to top that the next year though?  Well, I don’t think it is possible to give a better gift than a custom built home, especially a Boone Home, but if you are still looking for gift ideas this year for Valentine’s day the Richmond area is in for a treat.  The Carpenter Center and the Richmond Ballet are bringing Romeo and Juliet to the stage with the Richmond Symphony’s powerful performance of Prokofiev’s passionate score.

The Richmond Ballet will revive the full-length ballet for the first time since 2000. You won’t want to miss your chance to see this classic love story performed over Valentine’s Day weekend! Check out Richmond Ballet on the web or call 1.800.982.2787 for ticket information.

Are You Sick of Shoveling Snow?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Bellingham @ Twin Hickory 2/7/2010Wow, after two weekends of shoveling over 12 inches of snow each of the last two Saturdays,  I am ready for spring.  I have lived in Richmond, Virgina for over 50 years and I am hard pressed to remember this much snow on the ground at one time.

After digging my car out of a pile of snow on Saturday, I decided to check on the progress of the snow removal in several of the Boone Homes communities located throughout Richmond and Roanoke.

All of the driveways were clear of snow and the sunshine was working on melting what ice was left. Just another perk of living in one of the many Boone Homes communities where maintenance is included with your Homeowners Association fees. (more…)

Have You Had Your Free New Home Buyer Counseling Session?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

The New Home Buyer Counseling Session was developed by Boone Homes of Roanoke to answer Buyer/REALTOR questions about our homes, address concerns, provide ways to customize plans, prepare a personal “Wish List” of options and to walk through each phase of the construction process.

Our Vice President of Construction and New Homes Sales Manager meet with every buyer and their Realtor for this session, allowing us to be able to address questions about construction, purchase agreement and financing. This session usually lasts an hour and half. This is the perfect spot for both the buyer and the Realtor to have all of their questions answered. The session is completely customized to the buyers needs and is designed to make sure that everyone leaves confident and happy with their purchase.

Buyers are able to create a “Wish List” that begins with the base price of the home and then adds pricing for each option selected. The total price of the home is then shown and  buyers see exactly where their money is being spent. (more…)
