The Education of Living in Virginia

Friday, July 30th, 2010

You may have read in one of our other blogs about the great school systems in Virginia, but did you know that living in Virginia is an education in itself.  Where else are you going to see so much living history, and so many places of the past preserved.  Just a short drive from Richmond will take you to Colonial Williamsburg where the past comes alive every day with recreations from the revolutionary war period, street theater, and stories of the everyday life of the residents of 18th century Williamsburg.

However, if the revolutionary war is not your favorite time period, perhaps a drive to Appomattox, Virginia, is the thing for you. Take in the sights and sounds of the place where Lee surrendered to Grant and ended the Civil War.  But if you don’t want to take a road trip, you can easily get all the education about the Civil War you desire right here in Richmond, Virginia,  from the Museum of the Confederacy to the Petersburg battlefields, and so much more.  There are countless historical places to visit in Virginia no matter which period of history interests you.  It is truly a history lovers dream to live here.

How would you like to come home from your day’s historical adventures to your own beautiful library & study– one that would make Jefferson or Washington envious?  You can certainly do that if you own a home built by Boone Homes. We can custom build any of our luxury home plans to help you have the study of your dreams.  Why (more…)

Making your life a little easier …

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Which is worse cooking or washing dishes?  I am sure we will get a variety of answers on that one.  I don’t really care for either one myself, but let’s face it, whether we like it or not, they are both things that have to be done.  So why not make it as easy on yourself as possible ?  With the advanced technology and spaciousness of your new kitchen in your Boone Home, both of  those chores will be done more easily and quickly than ever before.

Boone Homes’ kitchens offer options like Speed Cook Technology, that can cut cooking times by nearly 50%.   If you aren’t interested in cooking faster, but you want to be able to cook more at once, we offer oven towers with one or two ovens in the size that you choose.  With an oven tower there is no crouching or bending over to check on your baking — instead everything is at eye level, and easy to transfer from the oven to the counter.

Are you tired of pre-washing dishes before you put them in the dishwasher?  With the advanced technology of  many of today’s dishwashers there is no more pre-washing because you can choose a dishwasher with a built in hard food disposer. There are  many new options available to make washing dishes easier than ever before.  You can choose a dishwasher with technology like adjustable rack levels, delay timer for washing,  deep clean cycles, and even single rack wash selection.  I personally like the delay wash cycle and single rack selection.  With these two options (more…)

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

I will never forget the episode of the Oprah Winfrey show that I watched when she gave everyone a “tour” of her closet.  WOW! That was all I could say. I sat there and watched in awe.    It was amazing.  She had a shelf or drawer for every color or fabric choice.  Since that episode I have dreamed of Oprah’s closet and admittedly with envy have thought how much I want Oprah’s closet !

If you have read any of our previous Boone Homes blogs, then you know that we love to make your dreams come true when build you a new home.  So I thought to myself, why couldn’t our  homeowners have Oprah’s closet?  We could make that dream come true for a lot of lucky ladies (and gentlemen (more…)

Sounds Of Summer

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

The sounds of summer!  How I love thee, let me count the ways:

I love thee when I rise in the morning to sound of the mower circulating the yard in a desperate attempt to stay one step ahead of the core aerating and fertilizer we spread in the spring.

I love thee in the evening with the tender sound of the irrigation system perpetuating the growth cycle of the grass.

I love careful and affectionate squeaky wheel barrow, rake and blunt shovel as they captivate and restrain the rebellious mulch escaping the planting bed’s meet and bounds.

I love the sound of the gentle lob shears pruning the rose, lilac and crepe myrtle.

I love the warm sloshing of the paint brush as it gathers and disperses the paint of Love on the object needing extensive care.

I love the kindhearted ticking clock as I spend my days off consumed with you needing my presence.

Most of all I cherish the compassionate moistening of the brow and grunts for a big bottle of pain medication at the end of day….

Lemaire & Rappahannock River Oysters

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Lemaire Restaurant at The JeffersonThe Jefferson Hotel has been a Richmond institution since 1895.  It is known for being the grandest hotel in Richmond and it certainly lives up to that expectation.  Located within this hotel is the equally grand restaurant, Lemaire. If you live in the Boone Homes Wescott at Grey Oaks neighborhood, you can be dining at this special restaurant in 25 minutes.

Lemaire has always been known for its wonderful gourmet food but for some it may have been a little too formal.  The restaurant has recently reinvented itself and while maintaining its high quality food it has made some changes to its menu and dining area that make it more accessible to all.  No longer is it necessary to make a reservation.  You can simply slip in whenever convenient and sit at their much expanded bar and lounge area and enjoy one of their unique cocktails and order one (or many) of their delicious small plate offerings.

Lemaire prides itself on incorporating the farm-to-table philosophy and using many locally grown ingredients.  One of their best offerings of local ingredients is their oysters.  The oysters on their menu come from the company Rappahannock River Oysters.  Side note, in no way am I biased due to the fact that my son and nephew are the owners of this company…Anyway, Lemaire features RRO’s oysters which are harvested (more…)

There’s No Place Like Home

Monday, July 12th, 2010

When Dorothy clicked her red heels together three times and said “There’s no place like home,” we all melted a little bit inside and released an audible sigh thinking of how thankful we were for our homes and families.  At Boone Homes we know how much your home means to you and your family.  That is why we do everything we can to help you make your home exactly how you want it.  We want you to have personal touches that are uniquely yours.  There are a lot of houses on the market, but we strive to individualize our houses and make them homes for our customers.

When it comes to home buying, as Dorothy would say, “We are not in Kansas anymore.” Today’s market can be confusing, and it can be hard to know where to start, and what to do.  How are you supposed to know  if you are getting the best for your money? Why not  let our experienced sales team give you a home buyer’s counseling session and answer all of your (more…)

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has expanded and nearly doubled in size!  Museum director, Alex Nyerges says “Everything about it is bigger, brighter and — with free admission– more welcoming. “  The expanded museum has double the space for traveling exhibitions, and the new renovations have expanses of glass that allow more natural light into the museum.

The McGlothlin Wing is the primary feature in the museum’s expansion. The first major exhibit in the new wing is called Tiffany: Color and Light. The exhibition is a collection of work by renowned designer and master of glass, Louis Comfort Tiffany. Curated by the world’s leading scholars, the exhibition centers on his primary work.  Among the more than 180 objects in the exhibit are examples of his leaded (more…)
