Roanoke’s Local Flavor

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

When you move to a new area, it can take months, even years really to feel “settled”, and to know where the best shopping is, where the best parks are, who the best doctors are, and where the best places to eat are located.  It can be frustrating starting all over again.

I have lived in Roanoke for three years now, and have been excited to find out that Roanoke has such wonderful local flavor.  What I mean is that Roanoke has such a unique atmosphere of down home charm despite being a rather sizeable metropolitan area.  When I first moved here, I dreaded starting over again. However, I was very pleasantly surprised at how easy it was  for Roanoke to feel like “home”.  Living in Roanoke is like slipping on your favorite sweater, it just fits, and it feels warm and inviting. There are two great malls for shopping, and many unique little shops.  There are  wonderful parks, local attractions like the Mill Mountain Zoo, and many locally owned family restaurants that have some of the best food I have ever eaten.

Living in Roanoke means that you definitely don’t have to eat at chain restaurants all the time. Let me share with you a couple of my favorite (more…)

Location, Location, Location …

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Thinking of moving to a new home?  Wondering where you should start looking?  Well, you should ask yourself some questions first to narrow down your search.  After all, the first decision you need to make is Location, Location, Location.  Isn’t that the key in real estate?

Hopefully, by now you have it narrowed down to what state, and city you want your new home to be in.  But that can still leave a huge area for you to search.  So to narrow your search,  think about these things, and organize them in order of their importance to you.

  • Do I want to be close to work ?
  • Do I need to be close to my children’s school?
  • What hospitals and doctors  are nearby?
  • What about parks, restaurants, and shopping?
  • Is it close to my worship center?
  • Do I want to be near family and friends who live there?

Once you have considered these items, and put them in order of importance — say your first priority is being closest to the children’s school; start looking at communities near your child’s school, and see what they have to offer.  For example, many parents in the Richmond area love Chesterfield county schools.  If you want your child enrolled there, then consider Boone Homes’  Haywood Village at Charter Colony or Tarrington Courtyard Homes.   If you (more…)

The Home Builder’s Golden Rule

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Would you want someone building a house for you that they wouldn’t live in themselves?  If they are building a home for your family, shouldn’t it be good enough for them as well? — of course it should.  There is something to be said for the “ Golden rule” – treat others the way you would want to be treated.

Did you know that the Golden rule can be applied in the home building industry as well?  That is why the Boone Home’s guiding principal is ” To build each home as if it were our own.” At Boone Homes we would never build a home for anyone that we would not live in ourselves.  As a matter of fact, the President of our Richmond office, and the President of our Roanoke office both live in … you guessed it, Boone Homes communities, in homes that were built by the same people that will build your new home for you.  Many of our employees also live in Boone Homes communities.  We know quality when we see it.

When you are looking for a luxury home builder, or any home builder for that matter, you want to make sure that you choose someone who is reliable, dependable, and (more…)
