Boone Homes is proud to be an ENERGY STAR® New Home Construction Partner, offering Energy Efficient packages in both the Richmond and Roanoke real estate markets.
Many are familiar with the blue ENERGY STAR® on household appliances like a refrigerator or dishwasher. People know that if they see the blue star the appliance will use less energy and therefore cost less to run than traditional appliances. But what does it all mean when it comes to new home construction? In a nutshell it means the same thing; ENERGY STAR® qualified homes will use less energy than a traditionally built house and therefore will result in lower energy bills. But that’s not all; an ENERGY STAR® house will be more comfortable and healthier for your family by controlling the air and moisture within your home.
Our ENERGY STAR Silver Package
Energy Efficient Building Envelope:
Using specialized Structural Insulating Sheathing (SIS) by Dow, which includes a moisture barrier coating and caulking penetrations, creates a tight building envelope which acts like a jacket for your home. Just like a jacket doesn’t keep the elements out if it is not zipped up, a home that is not sealed well does not keep you and your family comfortable and your home dry.
Energy Efficient Insulation:
ENERGY STAR® qualified luxury homes in Richmond will be insulated where traditional insulation practices fall short. The band boards will be sprayed with foam to assure all penetrations are sealed. The top and bottom of walls on the exterior walls will be caulked. Raised heel trusses assure that the R-38 insulation goes all the way to the exterior wall. Areas of homes, notorious for leaking air and therefore wasting your heating and cooling dollars, will be sealed and insulated, dramatically reducing this loss.
Energy Efficient HVAC Installation:
Heating and cooling systems will be sized for each specific ENERGY STAR® qualified home using a scientific computer program, resulting in the system running on optimal cycles for efficiency and comfort. All ducts will be mastic sealed, greatly reducing the amount of heating and cooling lost before the air ever reaches the living area of your home.
Energy Efficient Low E Windows:
These windows reduce the amount of heat and UV light transfer that occurs through traditional windows. This not only will reduce the effect the summer sun has the temperature of your rooms, but it also will protect your floors and furnishings from costly fading.
Energy Efficient Radiant Roof Sheathing:
Reflective sheathing material that blocks up to 97% of the transfer through the sheathing will be installed; lowering temperatures in attics by as much as 30°. This increases the efficiency of the HVAC system and duct work when located in the attic, as well as helps protect items stored in the attic from extreme heat.
Third Party Certification:
A Certified HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Rater will perform a standardized evaluation of a home’s energy efficiency and expected energy costs, referred to as a HERS rating. HERS ratings are like MPG – they are what they are and are derived in the same manner across the country.
We at Boone Homes are excited to partner with ENERGY STAR® and to offer our customers the benefits of energy-efficient homes.
