Roanoke Real Estate with ENERGY STAR Packages

Friday, January 28th, 2011

Boone Homes is proud to be an ENERGY STAR® New Home Construction Partner, offering Energy Efficient packages in both the Richmond and Roanoke real estate markets.

Many are familiar with the blue ENERGY STAR® on household appliances like a refrigerator or dishwasher. People know that if they see the blue star the appliance will use less energy and therefore cost less to run than traditional appliances. But what does it all mean when it comes to new home construction? In a nutshell it means the same thing; ENERGY STAR® qualified homes will use less energy than a traditionally built house and therefore will result in lower energy bills. But that’s not all; an ENERGY STAR® house will be more comfortable and healthier for your family by controlling the air and moisture within your home.

Our ENERGY STAR Silver Package

Energy Efficient Building Envelope:

Using specialized Structural Insulating Sheathing (SIS) by Dow, which includes a moisture barrier coating and caulking penetrations, creates a tight building envelope which acts like a jacket for your home. Just like a jacket doesn’t keep the elements out if it is not zipped up, a home that is not sealed well does not keep you and your family comfortable and your home dry. (more…)

Even if you really don’t want to, you feel an obligation to say yes.  But, maybe it is time to start saying NO. Life is too short, and time is the most precious thing we possess. Friday, December 31st, 2010

Have you started writing your New Year’s Resolutions yet?  Where will you be in 2011 ? What goals have you set ?  Maybe they are the usual, lose some weight, quit smoking, eat healthier — we all have our own personal goals we want to meet in the coming year.   Maybe the changes need to start at home. Is your current home meeting all the needs of you and your family ?  Many of us are displeased with our homes and our living space, and it clutters up many areas of your lives.  A new home can give you more space you need for that exercise room, or a new home office can give you time to do those projects at home, and keep you from staying at the office so late.   A new home offers so many ways to improve your life, and your family’s.  It could be just the change you need for the New Year !

Boone Homes Roanoke is offering many new and exciting designs and floor plans, not to mention new homes with energy saving features, (save money in 2011).  Energy Efficient homes are also healthier (another resolution kept- getting healthier).  Gee – I (more…)

Christmas Tradition Is Deep In Roanoke

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

When you buy a new home from Roanoke custom home builder Boone Homes in a new home in neighborhoods like Devoncroft and Hampshire, you are buying more than just a quality home in a great neighborhood within the best school districts.  You are signing up for the experience of living in charming Roanoke.  Roanoke is known as a city of festivals from Local Colors to Festival in the Park and many, many more.  December 3 marks the beginning of a nearly 30 year Roanoke festival tradition, Dickens of a Christmas.

Dickens, as it is locally known, sees the downtown historic market transform into a Victorian Christmas wonderland complete with chestnuts roasting, carolers decked out in Victorian finery, street performers and carriage rides.  Shops on the Market stay open late so visitors can do a bit of holiday shopping as well.  The festival runs each Friday in December leading up to Christmas from 6-10 pm, with special features each week.  To kick off the festival there will be a the lighting of the City Christmas tree on December (more…)

What is Arts and Crafts?

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

When you are out driving around looking for Roanoke new homes, you might be completely surprised by a totally different style of home. It’s not the typical Colonials you expect to see in neighborhoods like Hampshire, The Groves or Roselawn Homes at Stone Manor.  The style is Arts & Crafts, also known as Craftsman, it originated in the late 1800’s to show that simplicity could be just as beautiful as ornate and is not limited to just architecture, but also encompasses interior design.  The style has evolved over the years in different regions of the country.  Boone Homes has made a commitment to not only offer Arts & Crafts style on the exterior, but to carry the style throughout the home.

On the exterior there are many differences between a Colonial and an Arts & Crafts home.  Boone Homes’ Arts & Crafts homes feature areas of shingle siding, board and batten siding, square columns (more…)

Roanoke’s Grand New Homes

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

Living in Roanoke is not always stress free, but being able to pause and look at the serenity of the mountains can bring a moment of peace to an otherwise hectic day.   One of my favorite things about Boone Homes’ low and no maintenance new home community, the Coach Homes of Southwood is that it is built in one of the most beautiful locations in Roanoke, so you can enjoy the breathtaking surroundings.  The beautiful and elegant interior features luxury one floor living with beautiful hardwood floors, a designer kitchen with granite countertops, speedcook technology, and an open floorplan that extends the kitchen into a breakfast area and spacious family room, you will love all that this home has to offer.  This home shows attention to detail from the beautiful windows that showcase the home, to the columns that add sophistication to the dining room.  This home is elegance personified.

All of this, and a maintenance free exterior, (thanks to living in a NO (more…)

What Are The Benefits of a Green Home?

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

energy efficient homesThe Green Building movement is a major change to the way new homes are built. If you are actively searching for a green home in Roanoke or Richmond, here are some things to keep in mind.

The scientific research that has been done in the housing industry as part of the Green Building movement has identified the areas in homes where there are problems. In traditionally built homes as much as 20% of the home’s heating and cooling are leaking outside, resulting in wasted money and wasted resources.  This research has led to the development of guidelines that we call “Scientifically Designed Homes” or “Green homes” the terms are used interchangeably.  Today’s new homes are going to be built better because of this research.

Green Home Benefits to the Buyers?

First, the Quality of Construction is Superior to traditional building methods. The criteria of “Scientifically Designed” homes addresses minimizing energy loss, installing a vapor barrier that keeps the moisture outside and does not allow it into the structure, this is to prevent (more…)

What Does Green Building Mean?

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

You probably already know that Green Building saves you money on energy bills, but did you know that there are many health benefits to living in a green home? It seems we have been bombarded by the media with the term “Green Building,” but few of us know what it actually means. We are going to explore the meaning of green building, as well as the benefits to homebuyers of living in green homes in a series of posts on our blog. When you start your search for an energy efficient home in Richmond or Roanoke, we hope you’ll call us!

We thought it would be helpful to define “Green Building” and decided to turn to a recognized authority on the subject. Here is the definition from the EPA’s Energy Star® Website:

“Green building means improving the way homes and homebuilding sites use energy, water, and materials to reduce impacts on human health and the environment. Building a green home means making environmentally-preferable and sustainable decisions throughout the building process – decisions that will minimize the environmental impact of the home while it is being built and over the many years it will be lived in.”
EPA Energy Star states that there are 50 regional and national green home labeling programs around the country. They identify the guiding principles of each program as follows:

  • Energy-efficient construction techniques and products
  • Improved indoor environments through environmentally-preferable material and building practices
  • Water-efficient products and processes
  • Renewable energy options, when feasible (more…)
