New Architecture and Floor Plans Create One Level Living

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

There is quite the buzz stirring amongst the Richmond new homes community about Bellingham at Twin Hickory.  The buzz is related to all the new architecture and floor plans that have been introduced by Boone Homes.  These award-winning architectural masterpieces have some tremendous features specifically designed to improve mobility and lifestyle.

One of the most prominent features is how our architect designed the home to create a one level way of life.  Bellingham at Twin Hickory is all about mobility.  A functional while decadent first floor master suite melds into the private bath with large walk in shower, two large walk in closets and plenty of space to spend a lazy morning deciding if one wants to face the day.  If you want to face the day you can charge into your sunroom for an afternoon novel.

The gourmet kitchen lacks nothing in function or detail.  No need to be intimidated, go ahead and prepare an intimate meal for two or a large spread for the holiday.   The entire second floor is for the occasional guest, grandchild sleep over or holiday get together.  (more…)

Having It Her Way: Lois Farmer

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

“At each step in the design and building of my home, the Boone Homes team made it clear to me that what was being built would be my home,” Lois says, “one that’s customized to my new lifestyle.”

A life well-lived is a life fully lived, on your own terms, with as few concessions as possible.

That philosophy has served Lois Farmer well at every stage of her life. And it’s a philosophy that stood her in good stead following her husband’s death, as she moved from the farm where she lived for decades to a new home in Roanoke’s Coach Homes Of Southwood community. (more…)

The Children’s Museum opens in the West End

Monday, April 26th, 2010

The Children’s Museum of Richmond has been a staple of the Richmond community for years. I went on school field trips there as a child and loved it. I’ve also brought my daughter there numerous times and I am sure someday she will take her children there as well. It has become a Richmond tradition, a place of learning and fun for all of Richmond’s children.

Now a new and exciting satellite location is opening in the Short Pump area, specifically in the West Broad Village shopping center, near Whole Foods Market. The new location will feature a hands on craft center where children can paint and do all types of fun and messy things, with the best part (for parents) leaving the mess at the center. The museum will open in early June with hours of operation from 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. everyday, Sunday-Saturday. (more…)

Boone Homes: the best of everything – even healthcare.

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

When you are moving into a new area, how high does a good hospital rank on your list of concerns?

For some of us who feel indestructible it might not be a high priority. That was me a few years ago. I was working full time, planning a wedding, going back to school and “healthy as a horse” as the old saying goes. Then four months before my wedding, a sore throat quickly became a serious problem, a rare bacterial infection. The quick thinking and skills of the excellent physicians and nurses at Bon Secours St. Francis ultimately saved my life.

I hope that you never need a hospital, but it is certainly comforting to know that some of the best medical care in the country is right here in Richmond, Virginia. No matter what age you are, or how healthy you think you are, it has to be comforting to know if the time ever came – help is just a few miles away.

When Boone Homes builds a community, we take into account all of the things that are important to a family. (more…)

Is there really such a thing as a gentle dentist?

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Moving into a new area often means finding a new doctor and a new dentist. Sometimes that can be difficult because good health care relationships seem increasingly harder to find these days. It might feel archaic, but even in our modern society many people are still afraid of going to the dentist.

I used to be one of those people, then I met Dr. Pranee White and Dr. Scott White. This dynamic duo have changed how I feel about dentistry. Ten years ago I was a young woman with a mouth full of cavities because I was afraid of the dentist. Painful and scary treatments from my childhood haunted me, but soon the time came when I knew I was going to have to relent and meet the dentist. (more…)

Wow, Mom look at that!

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Just the other day I was sitting in my office when an adorable little girl went skipping down the hall pointing to the pictures on the wall and said “Wow, Mom look at that- I want to live in that one.” Her mom said, “That is a beautiful home, I like it too- let’s talk to Tim about it.” Soon they were on their way to living in that new home.

Today’s family wants a home that is “kid-friendly,” and choosing your new home should be a “kid-friendly” experience. As one of Virginia’s leading single-family home builders, we at Boone Homes know this, and we implement it in the home buying process.

From the first tour of the model when your child can pick out which room they want to be “their room”, to picking out paint colors in the selections process, every step is customized for your needs. Choosing a custom built home by Boone Homes is an experience for the whole family. In addition to having your home customized for your families’ needs, we also offer maintenance free communities.

Our new no maintenance communities offer today’s on the go family the perfect option to save valuable time. Wouldn’t it be great not to have to worry about mowing the grass, or shoveling snow? (more…)

Literary Festival, a Hidden Community Treasure

Monday, March 1st, 2010

The area surrounding each Boone Homes community has hidden treasures and resources that boost and improve one’s way of life. One such event is the annual Literary Festival hosted by John Tyler Community College. The festival will take place March 1 through the 4. This year’s author and special speaker will be Darnell Arnoult, a poet and acclaimed writer of the novel Sufficient Grace.

Darnell will be touring all of the John Tyler campuses and sharing a series of excerpts from some of her writings. John Tyler has several other engaging events within the Literary Festival such as a writing workshops and gallery talks further deepen the value contributed by John Tyler to the surrounding community.

Much like the community treasures provided by John Tyler to the surrounding neighborhoods, are the hidden treasures of vast value within the construction methods used to build a new Boone Home. (more…)

Hospitals and Home Buying

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

It might be sound surprising, but Johnston Willis Hospital (CJW) is one of my favorite places. In addition to being an amazing healing center in the Midlothian area, this hospital also has some of the most skilled and helpful doctors and nurses I have ever met.

I’ve visited the hospital on many occasions to visit family members or church members and each time I am greeted with a warm and friendly smile. Questions are always answered thoroughly and everyone on staff is kind and pleasant. CJW focuses on five major areas: general care, emergency care, Levinson Heart Hospital, Thomas Johns Cancer Hospital and the Neuroscience & Gamma Knife Center, so matter your need, CJW has the right medical team for you.

Boone Homes is similar in that respect. We have over 10 different new home communities throughout Richmond and Roanoke.  Three of our communities are located within miles of CJW: Tarrington on the James, Haywood Village and Westcott at Grey Oaks. Because each Boone Homes community offers a wide variety of floorplans and upgrade options, its easy for home buyers to find the perfect home for their family. (more…)
