Each year thousands of Americans honor these heroes with parades, ceremonies, fireworks and more. Events have been planned to allow residents of Richmond neighborhoods to remember and pay tribute to those that have fallen.

Rocketts Red Glare

Residents looking to celebrate Memorial Day with music, food and fireworks will want to stop by Rocketts Landing on Sunday, May 26, 2013 for the Rocketts Red Glare. Festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. with The Kings of Swing expected to start playing at 6:30 p.m.  Food trucks from RVA Street Foodies will be at the event to provide delicious fare including: Chupacabra, Soul Ice, King of Pops, Habaneros, The Dog Wagon, Curbside Creations Food Truck, Sideways Mobile Bistro and The Meatball Company. Nation’s Top Talent Laces up their Cleats for the Jefferson Cup this Weekend

Richmond neighborhoodsThis weekend more than 700 soccer teams from approximately 35 states will travel to Richmond, Va. to participate in the Jefferson Cup. Sponsored by the Richmond Strikers, this two weekend tournament is an opportunity for girls and boys U10 to U19 to showcase their skills with older players having the opportunity to play in front of more than 500 college coaches. The Strikers invite residents of Richmond neighborhoods to come out to the tournament and support your local athletes.

Games will be played on some of the nation’s top natural grass complexes, including Striker Park and West Creek, as well as turf fields that will allow play regardless of any weather issues.  The boys will begin play this weekend with U10 to U15 playing games March 9th and 10th and U16 to U19 playing games March 8th thru 10th. The girls will play the following weekend with U10 to U15 playing March 16th and 17th and U16 to U19 playing March 15th thru 17th. (more…)
